1. Distributed Energy & Power and your data

Centrica Business Solutions is part of the Distributed Energy and Power (‘DE&P’) business of Centrica nv. The Data Controller is Centrica Business Solutions Belgium.

This privacy statement explains your rights and how we collect and use your data. It discusses DE&P's processing activities, the objectives of those activities and the legal grounds on which DE&P relies to carry them out.

This privacy statement applies to the personal information we maintain about individuals (such as business unit managers or contacts at corporate accounts), including sole proprietors and partners. It does not apply to the information we maintain about companies and other legal entities.

We occasionally amend this privacy statement to keep it accurate and up-to-date. Each amendment will appear on this page. If we make significant changes, we will notify you.

2. What personal data do we collect?

This is the personal data we collect from our customers:

  • your contact details and the contact details of the people linked to your business account: information with which we can reach you directly, such as your name, email address, telephone number and the addresses associated with your business account or order.
  • exercising your rights: if you exercise your rights under the relevant data protection law, we will keep a record of this. And we will also save our response.

You are not obliged to provide us with the above personal data. Please note that if you do not, you may not be able to purchase our products or services. Or you may not be able to make optimum use of our products.

If and when we process your data so that no one can identify you

We can always anonymise and aggregate the personal data we keep about you (so that no one can identify you). We use such anonymous and aggregated data for a variety of purposes, including: Testing IT systems, research, data analysis, improving the website and apps and developing new products and services.

 4. Where do we get your data from?

We collect personal data from various sources, including:

  • directly from you: when you create an account with us, purchase our products or services, provide information through our websites or apps, fill in forms you receive from us, file a complaint, exercise your rights or call, email, or otherwise communicate with us.
  • our website and mobile applications: we collect information about how you use them and about the devices you use to connect to our website and apps.
  • other companies we work with: they provide us with information that allows us to better match you with our products and services. This can include:
    • companies in the same group of companies as us: they can provide us with relevant information about the products and services you bought from them.

 6. International transfer of your personal data

Centrica Business Solutions is part of a global organisation. Like other similar organisations, we work with third parties in other countries. They help us run our business. As a result, personal data may be transferred outside the countries in which we and our customers are located, including countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA) and countries without legislation to protect personal data. For this reason, we have done everything we can to adequately protect your personal data. And to ensure that all transfers outside the EEA take place in a legal manner. If we transfer personal data to a country outside the EEA that according to the European Commission (EC) does not provide sufficient protection for such data, then we draw up an agreement for those transfers that is in line with the requirements for transfers of personal data outside the EEA. For example with the standard contractual clauses approved by the EC.

 7. How long do we keep your personal data?

We keep your personal data for as long as is necessary to achieve the processing objectives.

 8. What are your rights with regard to your personal data?

You may have the following rights in relation to your personal data:

  • the right to know what personal data we collect from you, how we use it and where we obtain it when we rely on other sources;
  • the right to access the personal data we hold about you;
  • the right to correct inaccurate personal data we hold about you;
  • the right to request that we block or delete your personal data in certain situations;
  • the right to request that we transfer elements of your data to you or to another service provider;
  • the right to object to the processing of your personal data (1) when we have a legitimate interest (see Section 3), but your rights override ours for reasons relating to your personal situation (and which you must explain to us), (2) when we process them for direct marketing purposes or (3) because we make decisions by automated means that have a legal impact or other equally serious impact on you;
  • the right to withdraw your consent to the processing activities under Section 3, which we only carry out with that consent.

In exceptional circumstances you may only invoke some of these rights. Whether such a situation is involved depends on the legal basis on which we rely to collect your personal data.
